We all know the usual answers to urban heat—more trees, better shade, green spaces. And they’re good! But at a recent workshop, I had a lightbulb moment: many professionals (including myself) spend too much time in the high ground of policy and planning, while the real solutions are found in the messy swamp of lived experience.
If we want real change, we need to connect planners, sustainability experts, and communities on the ground—not just in conference rooms. And that means stepping into the metaphorical (and possibly literal) mud.
