Update 12th September 2024
Outcome of our August 30th zoom, recent developments, and what's next.
Collaborative Post on Public Transport and the 50c Fares
We sent out our first collaborative newsletter/post yesterday. This one was about public transport and the 50c fares, offering four very different perspectives that combine to broaden the conversation.
It was also an experiment into using embedded posts in Substack rather than cross-posting, as discussed at our last meeting.
Conversations like these help us see our local issues within a Doughnut Economics framework. They also move the tone from narrow and opposing viewpoints that go nowhere, to a more open and curious exploration of how we can create the sustainable future we want.
Writing these posts takes time and effort. Deadlines can be good, especially shared deadlines. One of the benefits of doing this as a group is that we can support and learn from each other.
Other less demanding but equally important ways that everyone can contribute include liking and sharing the posts, and furthering the discussions in the comments. Thank you to those who have already done so. There have been some really thoughtful comments that have moved us forward.
We move in the direction of our conversations. If there is no conversation, we don’t move forward. Even worse, our silence lets others determine the direction we go in. These articles give us all the opportunity to practice taking part in public conversations.
How did the structure and content of the article work for you - as a writer or a reader? Please tell us in the comments.

Between now and then, we will monitor the outcomes of the transport article and decide whether to adapt the process.
We will also consider which issues we will discuss next. What are your burning issues that you’d like to explore within the broader Doughnut Economics framework. Let us know in the comments.
